I create works in the form of performance, video, and VR images based on the theme of “reality”.

The starting point of my creation is juggling, which I have continued since childhood. However, as I have deepened my thinking, juggling is no longer an acrobatic technique, but has been sublimated into “a point of view considering the flow of energy”. Before the juggling technique, bodies and objects are equally mere “forms”. By passing energy from the hand to the object, the object floats in the air, and the object receives the gravity and returns to the hand, which then transfers the energy to the hand.

When we pursue this further, form is nothing more than a gradation of energy. As in the Buddhist doctrine of “color equals emptiness,” all things have no substance. Energy is only shaded and solidified, taking the form of the body or matter, or drifting and accumulating without being solidified into a form. Energy is passed on, forms change, and movement is born. Our bodies, once solid as bodies, are essentially inseparable from the world.

It is becoming more important to look at this “flow of energy” in the present age.

Today, we are inundated with a torrent of information and its noise, we are able to do almost anything without much physical movement, and we are able to imagine results without even trying. The torrent of information forces us to feel tired, as if we are constantly thinking, and tries to diminish our awareness of our “body” by depriving us of movement. We are thus constantly haunted by a sense of loneliness, impatience, and despair.

Of course, the increase in convenience and freedom is gratifying. However, I am more concerned than anything else that this sense of fatigue and despair will accelerate at a tremendous rate in the future.

And I believe that looking at the “flow of energy” can be a way to recover from that fatigue and despair. For example, the flow of water and wind is a complex and inevitable combination of various physical elements, and exists as its shape. The same is true of our bodies. The body that makes us who we are is part of the flow of energy in the world, and we must feel that it is inseparable from the world. I believe that this is the “reality”, and that it will lead to the affirmation of our existence even today.
